#thoughtfulthursday 31: Laugh about it!

The ‘Reader’s Digest’ used to have an article called ‘Laughter is the best medicine’ and so many times in my life I have found this to be true, especially at my darkest moments there was a power in laughter to bring healing and hope.
At New Year we spent the evening with close friends who had recently lost a loved one, we chatted, we cried but we also laughed a lot. It was a very special New Year because we got to bring healing and hope at a painful time in our friends’ lives. Laughter through tears is one of the most beautiful things.
During my brother’s battle with cancer laughter and jokes gave strength and determination to keep fighting. To be honest I was inspired by his ability to be positive and fun during that time, we celebrate his recovery now but I treasure the times we spent together when he was ill.

‘Taking things (even serious things) a bit less seriously can be kinder on everyone.’ [Jaime Thurston – Kindness the little thing that matters most]

I am not suggesting we our inappropriate or insensitive but without laughter we lose hope and find it very difficult to be lifted out of our circumstances. Who can you help lift up with fun and laughter today, in a loving and sensitive way, but bringing light to their dark moments.
